Who are the Best Business Coaches in Calgary, Alberta?

Looking for a high-quality business coach in Calgary, Alberta? With so many options, it can be challenging to find the right coach for your business and budget. While Google reviews and rating sites offer some insights, it’s essential to remember that business coaching isn’t one-size-fits-all. In today’s world, experience and longevity are important factors to consider—coaches who have “stood the test of time” often offer valuable perspective.

At Nine Business Group, we meet with hundreds of business owners each year, discussing their businesses, goals, and challenges. While we offer a wide range of services to support entrepreneurs, we recognize that our solutions aren’t always the right fit for everyone.

Over the years, many clients have asked for our opinions on other coaches in the area. This inspired me to write the article, What to Consider When Hiring a Business Coach. Each business and owner is unique, as is each Coach with their own perspectives, stories and experiences to draw upon, so take the time to find the right coach for you.

As you begin your search for a business coach, I suggest you first define your goals, objectives, budget, and key frustrations. Once you have clarity, you’ll be better equipped to vet potential coaches. Feel free to read my article, What to Consider When Hiring a Business Coach for further insights.

To help guide you, I want to share a few coaches in Calgary who have stood the test of time and offer unique value:

Richard Burley

Richard has studied under legends like Zig Ziglar and Jim Rohn, which speaks to his depth of experience. He is the most seasoned coach I’ve had the pleasure of working with. Although he is semi-retired, Richard still works with select clients on special projects. He splits his time between Calgary and Costa Rica, where he’s involved in a development project for Canadians seeking second homes in warmer climates.

Lori McIntosh

Lori recently relocated to Calgary and expanded her executive coaching practice here. She specializes in helping clients solve staffing challenges and enhance their leadership skills. Lori is particularly passionate about the venture capital space, where she not only invests money but also brings valuable leadership expertise to businesses.

Chris Jones

I had the privilege of meeting Chris a few years ago, and he graciously shared his time and insights with us. You can watch his interview on YouTube here. Chris, a former professional athlete, a successful entrepreneur, is now a certified EOS Implementer.  As a seasoned entrepreneur, Chris knows his way around business-building and crisis recovery.  He now focuses all his energy on working with family-focused entrepreneurs to create game-changing transformations.

Marty Park

Marty is a long-time friend and played a key role in my journey to becoming a business coach. We met in 2006 through a mutual friend while I was transitioning careers. Marty was generous with his time and experience, which made a lasting impact on me. His current focus is helping established companies looking to scale and grow to next level.  He remains active in the business community and has recently expanded his efforts to support entrepreneurs throughout Canada, US and UK.

MacKay CEO Forums

Founded by Dr. Nancy MacKay 17 years ago.  Nancy founded Mackay CEO Forums after seeing first hand the tremendous value of having CEOs come together to learn from each other, and to help each other deal with their toughest issues and challenges.  MacKay CEO Forums has become a prominent coaching business. While based in Vancouver, her team serves business owners across Western Canada, including Calgary. McKay CEO Forums focuses on group / peer to peer coaching and board-level advisory for businesses generating over $5 million in annual revenue.

In Closing

This is just a small list of local coaches I have had the pleasure of meeting and spending time with over the years from all over the world.  I don’t have the time to list every person, every coach I have had the privilege of learning from and spending time with.  However I would like to say a special note of appreciation for Jim Rohn and Zig Ziglar, the “grandfathers” of personal development, without them the world of Business Coaching would not exist.  Thank you to Michael Gerber, author of The E-Myth Revisited, the quintessential first ever Business Coach.  There have been many, many great people who have stood the test time and written many books that I have learned from that have made my career and life a possibility.  Lastly, Thank You to Brad Sugars, the founder of ActionCOACH, who has been leading the way for over 31 years and now in 80+ countries around the world in over 1100 offices.

Go win, go succeed.  Take action and find the right Business Coach for you and your business.

True Leaders Are Not Invincible

True LeadersThe word “leader” often conjures up an image of a driven, successful, almost super-human person who has the power to shape the world around them with their ample amounts of charisma, work ethic, intelligence, and powers of persuasion. Leaders are looked up to in times of crisis, and they are counted on to keep a level head in any situation. This status sometimes lends an air of invulnerability to these people; they are sometimes seen as not possessing human flaws and emotions. That cannot be further from the truth – no matter how confident and head-strong leaders can seem, they feel the same fears, indecisiveness, and insecurities we do. They may put on a facade of invincibility, but they are just as human as you and me. Continue reading “True Leaders Are Not Invincible”

Your Most Precious Resource is Time – Use it Well

Most precious resource

If you ask a business owner what their most precious resource is, they’ll usually give one of a few answers. Money is the most common, while others say their employees, community, or family. What is less stated is the one resource that can never be replenished or gained back – time. Once you waste your time with something, you can never get it back again. Some busier business owners understand this, but newer ones haven’t yet learned how to utilize their time effectively.

Business owners that don’t have enough time to do things usually have the same problems: they don’t delegate tasks well, they don’t prioritize tasks, and/or they aren’t well-organized in their day-to-day life. These issues are as simple to fix as they are common; most of the time, you only need to make a slight change in how you accomplish or go about completing certain tasks in order to squeeze more productivity in the time that you use.
